EAC Conformity for the Eurasian Market: What the Mark Covers and What It Does Not

Shipments into the Eurasian customs area generally need EAC conformity under the relevant technical regulations. This piece outlines the structure of the system, the documentation typically involved, and the points where buyers lose time.

The EAC mark indicates conformity with the technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union. For electrical consumer goods the regulations most often encountered are those covering low-voltage equipment and electromagnetic compatibility, and a single product can fall under several at once.

Two forms of confirmation exist, a declaration and a certificate. Which one applies depends on the product and the regulation rather than on a buyer preference, and the difference matters because a certificate is issued by a certification body while a declaration is registered by the applicant on the basis of its own evidence.

Documentation typically includes a technical description, the safety test reports, the operating manual in the required language and the labelling artwork. Where the applicant is established outside the customs area, a local representative is normally needed, and arranging that representative early is one of the easiest ways to avoid delay.

Labelling is a frequent source of rework. The mark, the manufacturer details and the warning text must appear in the form and language the regulation requires, and building this into the artwork is far cheaper than correcting it with an over-label after arrival.

Buyers should also note that EAC conformity does not stand in for the electrical safety assessment expected in other markets, and the reverse is also true. A file built for another region can supply much of the underlying evidence, but the local form, language and registration steps are not interchangeable. The specific scope and applicable dates should always be confirmed against the current official texts.
