Writing Compliant Product Claims for IPL Hair Removal Devices
Hair removal is the most heavily policed claim in the beauty category. Which statements are supportable, which are not, and how to write copy that sells without inviting a takedown.
Hair removal claims attract more scrutiny than anything else in the home beauty category, because they describe an outcome the customer can verify. That makes the wording on the box both commercially important and legally exposed at the same time.
Supportable statements describe the mechanism and the expectation: reduces hair regrowth over a course of treatment, flashes are absorbed by pigment in the follicle, results accumulate over several weeks. These are accurate, they set a realistic expectation and they survive platform review.
Unsupportable statements promise permanence or speed: permanent hair removal, visible results in one week, painless at every energy level. Permanent reduction may be defensible with clinical evidence for a specific device; permanent removal almost never is for a home unit.
Two practical rules prevent most of the trouble. First, keep the safety instructions and the claim wording in one document, because a claim that contradicts the manual is a finding on its own. Second, localise rather than translate, since a phrase that reads as ordinary marketing in English can be a regulated medical claim in German or Japanese.
Aolemon supplies IPL devices with claim wording reviewed against the destination market and matched to the manual, and keeps a per-market approved text file so that reorders and new artwork begin from a compliant baseline.
