The Tested Unit and the Shipped Unit: Keeping Production Consistent With the Type-Test Evidence
A type-test report certifies specific components and settings; undocumented substitutions in mass production invalidate compliance even if the product looks identical, making goods-in checks essential for importers.
The test report for model AO854 documents that its CE conformity depends on the exact red (630 nm) and blue (465 nm) LED wavelengths, the USB 5V/2A power supply specification, and the EMS pulse parameters defined in the technical file. These are not generic claims but the measured values that satisfied the essential requirements during type testing.
If a supplier swaps the LED bin for one with a peak at 610 nm or 650 nm without updating the documentation, the optical safety and efficacy claims in the report no longer apply, even though the device appears identical and ships in the same sandblasted-finish housing. The CE marking becomes legally unsupported because the type-test evidence no longer matches the shipped unit.
Component control is not optional: the critical items named in the report—specifically the LED emitters, the USB power regulator, and the EMS control IC—must be locked in the BOM and verified at incoming goods. Silent changes to these void the type-test basis regardless of cosmetic consistency.
At goods-in, the technical compliance lead should verify the LED spectral output with a calibrated spectrometer against the 630 nm ±5 nm and 465 nm ±5 nm bands, confirm the USB power delivery matches 5V/2A under load, and check the EMS pulse width and frequency via oscilloscope against the values in the test report. These are practical, non-destructive checks that protect market access.
Before releasing AO854 for sale in the EU or UK, the importer must hold the valid type-test report, the BOM revision that locks the critical components, and the goods-in inspection record confirming spectral, electrical, and EMS parameters match the documented values. Without this triad, CE/UKCA self-declaration lacks evidentiary support.
